Nail fungus is the cause of a toe or fingernails often times turning yellow or brown in color. This is caused from the breakdown of the protein in the nail called Keratin. The color of the nail is what is left after the Keratin is harmed. For most this is devastating.
Most individuals are conscious about their appearance in general. And to have a nail infection could be quite hard on many. This could lead to no more open toes shoes or sandals. Most often the women do not have to worry about this because it is more likely for a man to become infected than a woman.
Age plays a big role with nail fungus. It is more common for an elder individual to have infections compared to a child or young adult. If a child was to obtain such an infection the probable cause is labeled as being hereditary. Adults usually 40 and up are most susceptible to contract such and infection.

In some cases salons don't adhere to the rules and regulations that local agencies put in place as a guide. Often times these rules are not met. A salon might seem to be neat and tidy, but sometimes they are actually not.
Another precaution when visiting the salon is the nail polishes that are used. It is best to bring your own nail polish rather than use nail polish from the salon if they don't have new or personal bottles that can be used. If an applicator from a previous customer was used and that person had nail fungus, it could be easily transferred to the next customer without knowing.
Nail fungus is not directly related to the lack of good hygiene. Even the healthiest person can get infected so there is no need in feeling that you are not clean enough. Millions of people each year are infected by this and the numbers keep climbing. Yes, it is debilitating for some but with the proper medication and dedication nail fungus can be cured.
If medication is started it is imperative to continue the medication until complete. Starting the medication and within a few months seeing results does not mean that the infection is cured and you should stop with the medication. Just the smallest amount of infection will then infect the nail again, thus having to start the medication from the beginning again. It's advisable to use the entire amount of medication even if it appears that the infection has totally been eliminated.
Being barefoot does have its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are is that the foot does not sweat in this condition and most of the time sunlight is able to reach the nail of the toes. The disadvantages are if a person was to go into a public shower or locker room their chances of being infected increase. These are places where the organisms are most likely to live and thrive because of the locations being wet and warm all the time.
Precautionary measures can be taken by wearing sandals or shower shoes to control the contact between you and the surfaces that these organisms live on.
